Introducing Ring Noord: A New Chapter in Sound and Vision
Share
There’s something exciting coming out of Groningen. Ring Noord is the new collaboration between Nik Roos (formerly of Noisia, now releasing as Sleepnet) and long-time friend and creative partner Jasper Scholma, better known as Former. Their debut single ‘Wild Flowers’ drops today, Friday 11th April, on VISION (Grab a copy here!)— and it offers a proper taste of where they’re heading: somewhere between raw club energy and emotional, exploratory sound design.
This isn’t their first time working together. Nik and Jasper have been creatively aligned since 2017 through various Noisia, Sleepnet, and Former projects. With Ring Noord, they’re taking that connection further — pulling apart the DNA of club music and rebuilding it in their own image. The result blends elements of Drum & Bass, UK Garage, Hardcore, Techno, IDM and even a touch of Emo, but it’s stripped back, atmospheric, and designed to hit on a deeper level.
‘Wild Flowers’ leads the way with ghostly textures, crisp breaks, and ethereal vocals from Former’s sister Asa. It’s got the grit of early rave music but feels totally fresh — like it’s rooted in the past but built for what’s next. It’s introspective, but there’s still a pulse driving it forward.
To introduce the project properly, Ring Noord premiered an exclusive AV set on the VISION YouTube channel in March — featuring 29 unreleased tracks. The response was massive. The set, dubbed “Version 1,” isn’t just a collection of tunes — it’s an evolving experiment. Tracks might grow, change, or disappear altogether in future versions. That sense of movement and reinvention sits at the heart of what Ring Noord is about.
For fans of Noisia’s technical precision, Sleepnet’s emotional weight, or Former’s unpredictability, there’s a lot to love here. But Ring Noord isn’t just a continuation of what came before — it’s a fresh start, with a new voice and vision.
With strong ties to VISION but a clear path of their own, this is more than just a side project. It’s the launch of something bigger — new releases, immersive shows, and a forward-thinking take on club culture that’s built to evolve.
