Exciting news! Drum & Bass music’s longest-standing platform Drum&BassArena will premiere their long-awaited and HIGHLY anticipated full-length music documentary Drum & Bass: The Movement on 25th May at 8pm.
20 years that changed our lives: Drum & Bass: The Movement captures a specific and intense slice of the genre’s rapid rise from 1996 – 2016. Taking the viewer from the year Drum&BassArena launched, the story maps the following twenty years as a unique movement became a worldwide phenomenon as it infiltrated and influenced every culture, scene and genre surrounding it from mainstream pop music to video games.
This is the most detailed and explorative documentary of the scene known to man! The feature-length documentary tells the story as witnessed by the founding artists themselves and covers loads of the most important characteristics that make the genre what it is today. From its UK inner-city underground roots, DAT’s and dubplates, to the many sub-genres, MCs, key territories, crucial clubs and tracks that changed the scene forever. This is one definitely not to be missed!

The documentary has been a huge 5 years in the making and includes rare interview footage from the scenes certified legends, pioneers and trailblazers Goldie, Grooverider, Andy C, DJ Hype, Roni Size, MC GQ, Skibadee, Total Science, Digital & Spirit and Ed Rush & Optical.
You’ll also see heavyweight headliners Saul Milton (Chase & Status), El Hornet (Pendulum), Friction, Mefjus and Calyx & Teebee and label owners who rewrote the rules: Hospital Records’ London Elektricity, Critical Music’s Kasra and Renegade Hardware’s Clayton Hines all contribute their thoughts.
There’s also some of the most respected artists across the scene like The Prototypes, DJ Flight, Riya, Emperor, Icicle, John B, Phace and Sigma.

Directed by music videographer Bailey Hyatt, produced by music video director and producer Craig Haynes and written by journalist, author, presenter and ultimate soldier of the scene Dave Jenkins; the interviewed artists’ tales and anecdotes are all brought to life and contextualised by an intense menu of era-capturing and never-before-seen footage filmed by Drum&BassArena during its first 20 years.
Drum & Bass: The Movement will air as part of Drum&BassArena’s D&BTV: Locked-In series which has been taking us into the living rooms and studios of some of the scene’s most rated and respected artists since lockdown began, including A.M.C, Kyrist, John B and The Prototypes who raised almost £18,000 for the NHS on a D&BTV Locked-In 24 hour stream.
The documentary is the latest in a string of releases, activities and online events from Drum&BassArena as they continue to keep levels of interest, excitement and inspiration in the scene alive during the live music industry’s darkest hours.
This is one of the brand’s most ambitious projects to date and I for one cannot wait to watch!
