Share

For the next release on Off-License Records, they are yet again bringing through another brand new artist to the label, and one who has been making some big movements recently, not only through his music but also through his work on the well-known streaming platform, SkankOut. If you hadn’t guessed it already, we are of course talking about DJ Komatose. Coming through from Birmingham, this artist has had releases on labels such as Drippyboiii Recordings, Ruff Cut Records (with Madrush MC), and most recently on Liquid Tribe Recordings, showcasing a variety of styles and that he isn’t afraid to push the boundaries, with this release being no exception. Without further ado, may we present to you the 14th release from OLR, the ‘Particles’ EP.

The ‘Particles’ EP consists of 4 minimal bangers, taking the listener on a journey into the unique production style of DJ Komatose from start to finish. Throughout the EP, Ashley uses a variety of creative sound design techniques which seamlessly combine this release into a single entity of weighty goodness, and by doing so has created some serious dancefloor fillers that are guaranteed to have any crowd skanking. Taking influences from all areas of the Drum & Bass spectrum, these 4 tracks combine the use of heavy drums and rolling basses, with a plethora of FX and atmospheric elements, which we hope will cement DJ Komatose’s place in the scene’s future.

Our premiere ‘Crawler’ is a perfect example of rolling Drum & Bass, starting off with some light percussion and hints of what’s to come, it isn’t long before you’re met by the drop and straight into the groove that stays throughout. The track’s bassline is as rolling as its drums and in the switch, this gets paired with that classic minimal whomp that we all know and love. We think it’s safe to say that DJ Komatose has knocked it out of the park with this one!

Check out our premiere of ‘Crawler’ below. DJ Komatose ‘Particles’ EP is out on 20th July on Off-License Records, make sure you bag yourself a copy from the purchase button beneath the Soundcloud player!
