Philadelphia-born producer Des McMahon returns with ‘Ethos: The Remixes, Part 1’, the follow-up to his acclaimed 2024 debut album ‘Ethos’. Dropping May 16th via Play Me Records, this new six-track release brings together a global crew of cutting-edge Drum & Bass producers who reimagine key moments from the original LP. Known for his sharp production and genre-blending style, McMahon continues to build on his reputation as a key figure in the growing U.S. Drum & Bass scene.
Now based in Washington D.C., Des has been steadily carving out a name for himself since signing his first record deal at 18. His music has been supported by the likes of Diplo, Evol Intent, and Dieselboy, and he’s shared stages with acts like Skrillex, Nero, Spor, and Noisia. ‘Ethos’ itself charted at number 2 on Beatport and featured collaborations with Kerry Leva, Julien Lane, Korey Riker, and Georgie, setting the tone for what’s now evolving into a wider remix project.
Yatuza kicks off the EP with a weighty version of ‘Under The El’, adding stripped-back pressure and minimal edge. UK duo Kolectiv take ‘Red Line Rhythm’ into deeper, techier territory, while WAVHART transforms ‘Tilted’ with rich melodies and emotional weight. LO! delivers a darker twist on ‘Ritual’, Rift dials up the tension on ‘Slow Burn’, and Shibumi closes the set with a hypnotic spin on ‘Articulate’.
Play Me Records, founded by U.S. bass music pioneer Reid Speed, has long championed innovative underground sounds. ‘Ethos: The Remixes, Part 1’ fits right in, acting as both a tribute to McMahon’s original work and a showcase for a new wave of Drum & Bass talent. It’s more than a remix EP; it’s a cross-continental conversation and a sign of what’s still to come in the ‘Ethos’ series.
