Dark Ops drop ‘The Depths’ EP on Locked Up Music

Share

Dark Ops return to Locked Up Music with ‘The Depths’ EP which consists of four heaters that once again showcase the duo’s versatility while maintaining the essence of the foundation sound they love so much. This time round Dark Ops draw on the talents of good friends Martyn Nytram and Sicknote, who are absolute dons in their own right. With support from Threshold, Section, Ray Keith, Monita and Inner Terrain we are expecting this release to further progress Dark Ops’ reputation.

Opening up the EP is the title track ‘The Depths’ which draws on many influences and the classic Dread sound is clearly one of them. Subtle arps and skippy drums create the perfect illusion before the mayhem of dirty reeces and classics breaks ensues. Next up, ‘Play With Fire’ is an amen driven, rough trod track that develops intricately with Apache switches and early hardcore elements. The gem is the second drop and we can’t wait to hear this one destroy dancefloors. Sicknote joins forces with Dark Ops on ‘Believer’ and his analogue sound is drenched all over it. The second drop demonstrates the trio’s love of Digital and Spirit, with fierce stabs and distorted 808s. Closing out the EP is ‘Play That Again’; a funk-laden roller with hip-hop samples and plenty of soul.
