TMPZ & Melodrama collab on ‘Burnt Embers’ EP

Share

As we approach the height of summer, Rollout Records bring you the smooth, rolling vibrations of a fresh new combination in Drum & Bass: TMPZ and Melodrama. A fusion that perfectly balances the sweet atmospheric sounds prevalent in previous TMPZ tracks with that steppy, techy goodness, of which Melodrama is becoming a true master. The up-and-coming virtuosos team up for two tracks, alongside two solo productions for the ‘Burnt Embers’ EP, with their blend of styles stirring up considerable excitement within the Rollout Records camp.

Known for his sumptuous ambient-liquid sound design, as seen through his Four Corners release ‘Rain Face’ and own imprint Reforest Records, TMPZ digs deep and comes through with sweet warm melodies and a murky soundscape to form ‘Purple Note’. Using previously prevalent techniques with an afresh darker approach, this instalment rolls and flows freely, full to the brim with goodness

Hard-working Oxfordian producer Melodrama builds on his previous free download release on Rollout Records ‘Logging In’, as well as other popular free download releases with Twisted Sounds and Identity Records. There’s an eerie feel to this funked-up number. Dark vibes indeed as Melodrama samples the iconic voice of SAW franchise antagonist ‘Jigsaw’, to title his solo contribution to the EP. A techy tune with some weighty low-end business, indulging us with his increasingly distinctive style.

Combining their individual styles has seen the emergence of a sound with a unique design. With TMPZ wading into murkier waters and Melodrama anchoring things down, the atmosphere and framework of ‘Burnt Embers’ and ‘Third Shift’ bring a journey-like feel to the collaboration. The duo’s progressive title track ‘Burnt Embers’ features an eclectic mixture of instrumentation, pushing and pulling your attention through a deep and seamless mix. Heavy-hitting kicks drive this one home with some tidy drum work, showcasing another dimension to the duo’s production skill set. ‘Third Shift’ follows with a mysterious intro leading to a steppy drop with cleverly-timed bass shots keeping the listeners mindfully engaged, as the track teases you constantly in different directions.

Today we premiere the title track, which you can check out below. The ‘Burnt Embers’ EP lands on Rollout Records on 25th June, make sure you grab yourself a copy from the purchase button beneath the Soundcloud player!
