Renegade Riddims: Beast Jane

Jana Bursová, better known as Beast Jane, is a Czech Drum & Bass DJ and producer now based in Cambridge, UK. With roots in Prague and beats that cut deep, she’s been locked into the sound since 2014, serving Drum & Bass for breakfast, lunch and dinner.

Crowned one of the top CZ/SK female DJs after taking 2nd place at the 2022 Bass Awards, she also bagged 1st place at Boomtown Fair 2022 for best video set. Beast Jane isn’t just a selecta, she’s a force of nature. Rolling, deep, dark or liquid, her sets come with bite. She thrives on fusing Drum & Bass with Jungle, Deep Dubstep, Techno and UKG, bringing pure bassweight energy to every session.

She’s no stranger to big stages either. From tearing through sweaty basements to setting European festivals alight, Beast Jane has earned her stripes across the UK and beyond. A former Darkshire artist, she made her mark before the pandemic as a Chapeau Rouge resident and mastermind of her own night, Bass Overdose. That project became a hotspot for heavy vibes and thematic raving.

Now, she’s channelling her fire into fresh projects, working with DnB / Bass Portal and pushing the Czech Drum & Bass scene forward. Living in the UK and armed with a degree in Digital Music, her sound reflects both Czech and English influences, blending underground grit with rolling sophistication.

Fierce on the decks, unafraid to cross genre borders, and dedicated to the culture, Beast Jane continues to prove why she’s one of the most exciting names to rise from the CZ scene to the UK underground.

Sum up this mix in 10 words…


An ever-changing rave story with deep, jungle, techno vibes. 

What’s your personal favourite track on it?


That has to be Icicle – Dominate. I’ve played it countless times over the years and it never gets old. Icicle is a legend, and his album Post is such an open-minded, genre-bending piece of work. It’s one of the few older tunes in the mix – I just couldn’t leave it out.

What’s the special ingredient in this mix?


For me, it’s the rave story. I’m not mainly a producer – my craft is selecting music and blending it to create journeys. This mix is mostly 2025 releases, with drum & bass at its core, but I like to weave in jungle energy, deep dubstep, even touches of hard techno. It’s about blending my Czech roots – where people say “the harder the better” – with my UK influences, which I came here to study and soak up back in 2017. I don’t just drop bangers; I want the flow to make you smile, skank, and lose yourself without the need for relentless heaviness.

What have you got coming up?
 

October is huge – my first ever gig in Ukraine (Lviv, 4/10), which feels extra special as music brings light to people even in the hardest times. Then 10 Years of Soulvent in London (17/10) – I’m so proud to be part of that family now. And in January, a very exciting b2b with an Evolution Chamber artist 👀. More shows are coming.

When was the last time you actually raved?

London – at a video shoot for a new track coming soon on Soulvent Records (yes, it’s in this mix 👀). It turned into a four-hour strobelight dance – basically a mini rave with just the crew.

And finally, do you have a special message for our readers?


Never give up. This will sound cheesy, but it’s real. Moving from the Czech scene into the UK, I’ve felt lost at times, even left out. The start of this year was tough. But I’ve learned that when it feels like you’re losing connections, you’re actually making space for better ones. Trust that something brighter is waiting – hold on, let go of what no longer serves you, and keep dancing forward. 🖤
