‘BANSHEE’, is a battle cry from Kathika, Maddy V, Maria and Abi Nyxx

There are tunes built for polite nods, and then there is ‘BANSHEE’. Landing via 1 More Thing, this ferocious link-up from Kathika, Maddy V, Maria and Abi Nyxx is a full-throttle statement aimed squarely at the chest of anyone still clinging to tired power trips. Powered by Rua Tui’s primetime Drum & Bass production, ‘BANSHEE’ does not knock at the door. It kicks it clean off its hinges!

From the first drop, this one is all snarl and spine. Rua Tui lays down a leg-wobbling Drum & Bass roller, thick subs, snapping drums and enough low-end pressure to rattle basement pipes and festival scaffolding alike. It is built for sweaty warehouse moments, rooftop takeovers and those peak-time sets where the reload button starts looking nervous.

Lyrically, it is razor sharp. Kathika, fresh from the resurgence of Slamboree, steps in with warrior energy, referencing Lagertha and Boudica with a grin that feels more like a warning. Maddy V, representing the new wave with serious authority, addresses industry inequality head-on, calling out the disrespect female artists still face across the board. No filters. No softening. No holding back.

Maria and Abi Nyxx, both known for setting stages alight with Dutty Moonshine Band, come through with fire in their lungs. Abi delivers biting social commentary with a snap of the neck, while Maria flips the oldest insult in the book into a declaration of evolution. This is not a mood swing. This is a movement.

The title says it all. Like the Irish Banshee signalling the end of something, ‘BANSHEE’ feels like the final whistle for outdated control and abuse. Some of the uglier scenes playing out across the world feel like the desperate flailing of a system that has been decaying for years, a structure women have been challenging and dismantling step by step. We are deep into extra time now, the scoreboard flickering, and this fired-up collective has stepped up to call time on it once and for all.

More than just a release, it is action. ‘BANSHEE’ drops on 6th March, just ahead of International Women’s Day, with 50% of proceeds going to Refuge.org.uk, supporting women to live without violence and fear. There is also a launch party at The Attic Bar Bristol with the full cast alongside Rua Tui, Glitchgirl, Chez, Savvy B, Bear Twists, Sekhmet, Asha Binks, DJ Business Lady, Direct Debbie and support from 1 More Thing’s NoDave and Fireworks Factory.
