Virus Syndicate set to drop ‘Too Sick’ EP
Manchester rap collective Virus Syndicate are an integral part of the bass music scene, having brought through their local vibes to a host of international record labels. Members JSD and Nika D are renowned for being part of the global dance music community and this can be seen through their frequent link ups which span across several figurehead imprints. This continues with their brand-new ‘Too Sick’ EP alongside a host of heavyweight names on Netherlands based label Blackout Music. A staple of the underground drum & bass world, Blackout Music has been a gamechanger since it was launched by Black Sun Empire and the forthcoming EP from Virus Syndicate upholds the standards it’s set throughout nearly a decade.
Their ‘Too Sick’ EP is a return to form for the duo and it features a host of producers who are already recognised through the Blackout Music brand. With Neonlight, State of Mind, Pythius and Proxima pulled together for its release, the EP highlights how the pair’s heritage as lifelong drum & bass and jungle fans shines through their selectors. For the first part of its tracklist, German production outfit Neonlight presents ‘Psycho’ alongside Virus Syndicate, centralising the first of the EP’s more dancefloor flavours. Meanwhile, New Zealanders State of Mind merge forces with the MCs for a chaotic delivery ‘Cockroaches’. Blackout Music purveyor Pythius then comes through with the smashing framework for the EP’s title-track, which is rounded off by the half-time tempo of Proxima and Virus Syndicate on ‘Back Up’.
This is not a one-off project for Virus Syndicate but demonstrates an exploration of their direction. With Blackout at the helm, they’re about to flood its audience with their cutting-edge lyricism and their collaborators’ unforgiving sonics, reaffirming their place within the drum & bass community for another selection.
