Southall is next up on Witty Tunes with ‘The Way’ EP

Southall is one of the UK’s most promising up and coming talents. His event brand, Southall Presents, has created a local underground music scene and offers a platform for emerging artists across the North East of England. Following releases on Safe Music, Mixmasters Red, DarkZone Records & more, he returns to prolific Washington DC-based Tech House imprint Witty Tunes with ‘The Way’.

Featuring two dancefloor-ready subterranean cuts, ‘The Way’ is an exhibition of Southall’s heavy-rolling underground preference. The title track kicks things off with heavyset drum work and a pulsating low-end sub whilst subtle percs rattle around the central groove. Rising pads and a pronounced synth lead glide between hooky vox chops in the transitional phases of the track as gritty stabs fire in throughout the mix.

‘Tribal Funk’ closes the release with a more upbeat and terrace-geared vibe. Another bed of rolling drums sets the track off moving whilst layers of rippling percussion and offbeat fills add more cadence to the mix. The record comes together through creative melodic injections and vocal cuts that keep it varied and danceable from end to end.

We premiere ‘The Way’ on Data Transmission, check it out here and grab it here.

Grahame Farmer’s love affair with electronic music goes back to the mid-90s when he first began to venture into the UK’s beloved rave culture, finding himself interlaced with some of the country’s most seminal club spaces. A trip to dance music’s anointed holy ground of Ibiza in 1997 then cemented his sense of purpose and laid the foundations for what was to come over the next few decades of his marriage to the music industry.
