Sicknote drops debut EP on Locked Up Music
Locked Up Music is extremely excited and honoured to present ‘Encounters’ the debut EP from Sicknote; a man who is as prolific as he is talented. Originally from Essex, he is a vinyl enthusiast with experience in sound design and audio engineering. He has been DJing since 2001 and produced records for labels such as Skeleton, Dope Plates, MJAZZ, Addictive Behaviour, In-Reach and Silent Force. Sicknote has been working in the music distribution business for six years, and is responsible for drum & bass labels as Goldman Records, PAWS and more recently Stereocilia.
This debut EP demonstrates his versatility and attention to detail, while always keeping his sound true to the analogue era that he is inspired by. Locked Up are pressing a very limited number of vinyl copies on a very limited 12″ dubplate, via Sicknote and Dexta’s enterprise 1800-Dubplate, which makes this release even more special to Locked Up Music.
‘Close Encounters’ is a clever blend of chopped breaks, atmosphere and distorted bass. Sicknote effortlessly builds the track to an almighty crescendo for the second drop. ‘Re-up’ with Manchester’s Jim Bane offers a change in tempo and the half-time rhythm and piano licks provide a hypnotic groove that works so well with the rest of the EP. Our premiere today ‘808×4’ is a deadly weapon that builds with rolling drums and a rumbling sub until Sicknote’s trademark drum switch explodes to guarantee devastation. ‘Monco’ completes the EP and this is one for the head-nodders; fat drums, growling basslines and moody atmosphere – what more do you need?!
Sicknote’s ‘Encounters’ EP is out on Locked Up Music on 27th January, grab it from here
