Justin Strauss lands on hfn music with ‘Restart’

Share

Justin Strauss lands on hfn music today with ‘Restart’, a wonderfully sleazy slice of slow-motion disco made alongside Hot Chip’s Joe Goddard.

Strauss has been woven into New York club culture since his Mudd Club days in 1980, through the Ritz, Area, Tunnel and Centro Fly, while his production and remix history stretches from Depeche Mode and Tina Turner to LCD Soundsystem and Beyoncé.

‘Restart’ came together at Goddard’s Relax & Enjoy Studio in London, built around an 808 Strauss asked to slow right down and distort. The result rolls at a filthy 115 BPM, all rubbery bass, grubby synths, live percussion and half-lit disco swagger. The sort of record that makes far more sense in a basement at 2am than it ever could in daylight.

We’re premiering Justin Strauss’ ‘Restart’ today. Turn it up, then grab or stream the full release, including Joe Goddard’s remix and instrumental.

Grahame Farmer’s love affair with electronic music goes back to the mid-90s when he first began to venture into the UK’s beloved rave culture, finding himself interlaced with some of the country’s most seminal club spaces. A trip to dance music’s anointed holy ground of Ibiza in 1997 then cemented his sense of purpose and laid the foundations for what was to come over the next few decades of his marriage to the music industry.
