Reviewed: 2 Deep 2 Sleep ft. Kora & Gab Rhome
On Friday, June 28th, two of Canada’s finest house exports of the last decade descended upon Denver for an unprecedented, all-night-long performance in an undisclosed warehouse location.
The venue was intimate, well-prepped, and all-around just the right setting to allow Gab Rhome, of the scintillating All Day I Dream and Kindisch imprints, and Kora, of the world-renowned Anjunadeep label, to stretch their legs. The result was nothing short of astounding.
I entered the room a little after midnight, knowing full well this party would take us through the sunrise. The warehouse was located just outside of Denver proper, felt cozy in all the right ways, and was loaded with a few stacks of Funktion 1 speakers. My kind of party.
Kora & Gab Rhome had already been on about an hour when I arrived. The pair seamlessly worked through a plethora of heady cuts as the evening progressed, including both ones well-known across the DJ circuit and ones that were rather fresh to the ears. What really added a nice touch to the evening was the fact that both DJs added live tambourine and hand drum elements to the set. And although the live elements could’ve been a bit louder, the two were careful to use them in a tasteful manner. Never going overboard with either instrument while using them primarily to supplement the sounds pulsating through the speakers.
As the night turned to morning, the two continued to drop progressive and deep house belters, having fans hypnotized with every swaying bass line. The crowd was on par for the Denver scene, as the majority were respectful and energetic from start to finish in what was an overall quality evening,
As usual, the Seifhaus crew went above and beyond in their attention to detail. The main room was dressed in proper décor while the ambient room featured complimentary massages. The snack bar had a variety of fairly priced options and even offered fresh squeezed orange juice to those that brought champagne to this BYOB function.
Seifhaus is back at the end of the month, on July 26th, to celebrate their 5-year anniversary with Barcelona-based house and techno stalwarts Fur Coat in another private warehouse setting. Grab tickets here
