Tim Taylor & TRIPPIN chat Twogether

Nottingham’s most exciting underground event brand TRIPPIN ventures into new territory, on a mission, to blood the best new talent in house music. Their debut release sees TRIPPIN kick things off in style with rising star Tim Taylor.

Tim Taylor is the latest product to come off the conveyor belt of talent from the Hot Creations camp, becoming synonymous for his dark raw gritty basement beats. This release sees Tim continue on in the same style. We had the pleasure to sit down with Tim to find out more about the man behind the music.

Hey Guys, it’s a pleasure to premiere the lead track on your new EP with new label TRIPPIN Records – how did the release come about?

TRIPPIN:  TRIPPIN Records is a record label and party brand, based in Nottingham, UK. Founded in 2020, TRIPPIN was born from a love of emerging artists and recognising the cutting edge sound of the house music industry. The release came about by booking Tim onto our first event night and the relationship has been strong ever since, we truly believe in Tim’s music and see this at the forefront of the deep tech scene, so we invited Tim to be the lucky guy to release our first EP.

Tim: I met the Trippin guys when they booked me to play their opening party. They pulled off a really good night and they were nice guys. I was happy to take part in the label and release for their debut EP when they asked.

For those who might not know who Tim Taylor is yet, how would you sum your music up in a sentence?

Dark, groovy, synthy, spacey, Jamie Jones said “dark and sluggy beats” which is accurate haha!

What was the process for making the tracks on this EP?

Twogether: I wanted a more vocal-heavy A-side for the EP with some retro synths and old school scales. I’ve been loving that sort of sound and wanted to combine the old school sounds with the new school arrangement and techniques. I’m really happy with how it came out!

Revolution: This was a record I played at the first party and I’ve been wanting to release for a while. I thought it fit in pretty well with the aside and delivered a bit more of a rolling feel. The iconic vocal is something I’d been wanting to use for a while and with the chord stabs and drums it fits together so well.

Tim Taylor

Releasing on a label that started as a party and is gaining a reputation for discovering new talent – what advice would you give to someone who is starting out in music?

TRIPPIN:  It’s all about finding a sound that you truly believe in, no one can predict what music will be in the scene in the next 10 years but pushing something you believe in can sure make a change to that and connect with like-minded artists. The great thing about our industry is that everyone is really friendly and willing to push one another.

Tim: There’s a boatload of advice for starting out, one of the main ones is time. This is the same in pretty much anything, you have to put the time in and wait for results. You don’t go to the gym for a week and see massive changes, Just take one step at a time and be consistent. Be respectful and honest to people in the industry too, this ones also important. Don’t compete or try to force yourself into things, just be yourself and enjoy your time with people.

What do you have planned for the rest of the year?

TRIPPIN:  We will continue our major EP releases every 3rd Friday of each month from here on out. Also, we have had a fantastic start to the year and will continue with events in our local city Nottingham, so keep an eye on our page for some big lineups we have planned this year.

Tim:  I have lots of music coming out this year on some labels I’ve been wanting to release on since the start. Really excited to see where the year takes me. Some cool gigs and things coming for my Raw Cuts brand too.

Any fun facts or something we might not know about Tim Taylor?

I guess this counts, I have different coloured eyes hahaha! People usually take a couple of times meeting me before realising but I’ve never met anyone the same just yet.

Tim Taylor ‘Twogether’ EP is out on Friday 20th May 2022 & we premiere ‘Twogether’ on Data Transmission, check it out here and grab it here.

Grahame Farmer

Grahame Farmer’s love affair with electronic music goes back to the mid-90s when he first began to venture into the UK’s beloved rave culture, finding himself interlaced with some of the country’s most seminal club spaces. A trip to dance music’s anointed holy ground of Ibiza in 1997 then cemented his sense of purpose and laid the foundations for what was to come over the next few decades of his marriage to the music industry.
