Search DiP ft Amy Lyon – Forget You

Emerging Romanian label Matter of Fact is one which panders to a lighthearted but scrupulously produced house, indie and tech-house palette. While those who figure prominently could all find a place in the ‘newcomer’ bracket, the sounds in question bely the fact, especially where Search DiP’s ‘Forget You’ – a collaboration with vocalist Amy Lyon – comes into play.

Search DiP, of course, is the alias of Mihai Leonte, a man who’s already figured who other labels such as AliVE, Sleazy Deep and Union Jack. On this latest EP, he reminds us why he’s so endearing to such imprints. The title-track, for instance, is full of fully-loaded booty-shaking action, with its many musical meanderings proving the perfect foil for the work of lyricist Amy Lyon. Mercury’s remix is a fine ravey interpretation; the likes of which could have found a home in The Hacienda many moons ago.

The second half gets underway thanks to PAO’s spiky but musical remix. Full of well-rounded suspense and a smattering of shining synths, it glides at a wonderful pace that’s hard not to become enthralled by. The concluding remix comes from Wonderklubb, who tackles the track head on by focusing on a deep excursion through sound. Cleverly, he keeps hold of the vocals and lets them envelop the track alongside an unlikely bassline. It shouldn’t work – but it most definitely does.

Grahame Farmer

Grahame Farmer’s love affair with electronic music goes back to the mid-90s when he first began to venture into the UK’s beloved rave culture, finding himself interlaced with some of the country’s most seminal club spaces. A trip to dance music’s anointed holy ground of Ibiza in 1997 then cemented his sense of purpose and laid the foundations for what was to come over the next few decades of his marriage to the music industry.
