Saytek – Five Years On

saytek.jpgLabel: UbermaxRelease: 22/09/2014

For a start, this second release on the label started by Sigmund K  out of his regular Ubermax parties is released on vinyl only, reflecting the healthy swing back to proper DJing away from laptop culture.

2013’s first Ubermax release took a year to plan and create, the well-received end result boasting Moodymanc, Kezokichi and Sigmund himself. The label’s sophomore outing is a three-pronged scrotum scorcher from Joseph Keevill, aka Saytek who, for the last ten years has made a name for knowledgable, passionate releases on labels including My Favorite Robot, Soma and Wiggle.

‘The Place’ is a raw, piano-bolstered house jewel, imbued with classic old school Chicago touches such as soft speaking and rising central heating keyboards. ‘Addictive Personality’ deploys tribal percussive elements, hippo gonad bass and bottomless chords. The title track whips up a loping gallop with electro-tinged dream topping, ethereal female vocal touch and the kind of euphoric ballooning which can only do major damage to any fervent at five in the morning at kneesups such as Sigmund’s. Most certainly having it and hopefully Ubermax will maintain the momentum. That it’s on wax only is a major bonus.
