Moodmusic main man Sasse is the latest name to grace the halls of the irrepressible My Favorite Robot Records. Thanks to Ilija Rudman’s sweaty vocals, the acidic groove of Got 2 Be fits the imprint’s sonic template like a glove. Sasse offers up two versions, with the original coming in as the most successful of the pair, leaving Pink Skull and Patrice Baumel to make up the remix aspect.

Initially a heads down moment, a shift halfway through Got 2 Be attempts to tug at the heartstrings via an emotive string section. The earthen acid and airy strings feel like two directly opposing elements that never quite gel, highlighted even more by the “The Definition Of House” variation, which uses this pairing as the cornerstone from the off.

The remixes paint a totally different picture; Pink Skull sensibly takes his cues from the acidic elements of the original, increasing the resonance in waves of barely held in check dementia to great effect. While that would usually prove to be the defining moment of the release in any normal circumstances, Patrice Baumel wades in with a supersonic remix; it is the aural equivalent travelling on a spaceship that is gradually shifting through stages of hyperspace, the effortless grace of sliding through the void in tandem with tangible shifts in gear, exploding with streaks of colour at every stage.

Overall, some mixed results; although Got 2 Be is not up to the usual high standards of Sasse in one respect, his foundation has provided the perfect platform for Pink Skull and Baumel to turn out some fine works.
