Label: Celesta Records

Score: 7/10

Up here on Celesta Records for the first time is an exciting EP from the veteran Kiko, and fellow Frenchman and highly lauded Sankeys resident, Spencer K. These guys go straight in with title track ‘Kenloto’ which is a meaty, bass propelled track that throws in a few tasty samples to keep your feet occupied and they all combine together for a crescendo that is fresh – and a sure fire dance floor hit. Following this they have ‘Whack’ which is another classic-sounding old skool house weapon with a kicking drum beat and a collection of samples that all come together well over a vaguely progressive beat.

The third track on the EP is Miguel Lobo’s take on Kenloto and it’s a more high tempo affair, with a colourful usage of synths that brings a lot out of the track. Finally, we have the remix by Hot Creations boys Paul C and Paolo Martini, which has the more originality and expression of the two remixes, with a clever mix up in beat pattern and spacy galactic vocal samples, they really do bring an edge to an already impressive track. Overall, this is a great start to the label and it is definitely a label to watch for further releases in the future.

Grahame Farmer’s love affair with electronic music goes back to the mid-90s when he first began to venture into the UK’s beloved rave culture, finding himself interlaced with some of the country’s most seminal club spaces. A trip to dance music’s anointed holy ground of Ibiza in 1997 then cemented his sense of purpose and laid the foundations for what was to come over the next few decades of his marriage to the music industry.
