KEREM AKDAG ARTWORK 001_DJ-VOICE.jpgLabel: Petra DigitalScore: 8/10

Turkey is known for a lot of things, but if we’re being frank, house and techno isn’t one of those things. That said, the scene in Istanbul in particular is beginning to be talked up by many of those in the know, not least because of the city’s cosmopolitan outlook and their liking for endless opening hours. The fact that it’s significantly cheaper than mainland Europe needn’t be discounted either. Anyway, one such label that is coming at us from Istanbul is Petra Digital, an imprint with its fingers very much on the pulse.

Their latest comes from Kerem Akdag, an emerging producer with a penchant for classic-sounding house music. His Life of a Party is scrupulously produced, while the grooves are watertight and the vibes are indisputable. The title-track is a case in point, as the drums are perfectly peppered around and the vocal works its magic with some gumption.  ‘’How You Feelin’’ is groovier still, as it combines electro aesthetics with a classic Chicago vibe. Top draw stuff with this one.

The second half of the EP kicks off with Moodymanc’s remix of ‘’Life of a Party’’. In typical form, the Manchester native brings a dose of classy strands to the table, as he practically jettisons the original’s parts in favour of a deep house interpretation that’s hard to find fault with. Kaan Duzarat then introduces us to his wares in accomplished fashion, as he supplies a remix that’s notable for its unlikely sounds.

Grahame Farmer’s love affair with electronic music goes back to the mid-90s when he first began to venture into the UK’s beloved rave culture, finding himself interlaced with some of the country’s most seminal club spaces. A trip to dance music’s anointed holy ground of Ibiza in 1997 then cemented his sense of purpose and laid the foundations for what was to come over the next few decades of his marriage to the music industry.
