Jus Nowhere – Reignition EP

Jus_Nowhere_Definition.jpgLabel: Definition: MusicScore: 7.5/10

Swiss label Definition has quickly established itself as one-to-watch over these past few months. Blindingly consistent with their delivery, they’ve already featured a host of names from the house music underground, with names such as Ben Mono, Darius Syrossian and Hector Couto leading a very diverse and eclectic bunch. The latest such individual to be led into the camp is Justin Nouhra AKA Jus Nowhere, a U.S. producer whose sound is neatly aligned with that of the Swiss lads.

On the Reignition EP, we’re told of how Nouhra is a man adept at creating peak-time soundscapes. ‘Reignite’, complete with warbling bass and swelling synths, does exactly that, and its clever vocal helps breathe a tangible human edge into the track. Grimy but with enough personality to keep us in check, it’s nothing if not a dubby and auspicious start.

Hausick’s remix then capitalizes on the early promise thanks to a series of acid-influenced squelches and another heavy-duty bassline. ‘Hip-House’s broken beats, offer a moment’s reflection before a purring bassline evolves into something more foreboding and sinister, while ‘Shameless’ closes with a stunning and classy intervention of dramatic sounds.

Grahame Farmer

Grahame Farmer’s love affair with electronic music goes back to the mid-90s when he first began to venture into the UK’s beloved rave culture, finding himself interlaced with some of the country’s most seminal club spaces. A trip to dance music’s anointed holy ground of Ibiza in 1997 then cemented his sense of purpose and laid the foundations for what was to come over the next few decades of his marriage to the music industry.
