Hamburg native ENNIO might well be lumped together with Amine Edge & DANCE and their so-called ‘G-House’ sound, but to give the man his dues, theirs far more to his talents than just more-bounce-for-the-ounce house. In fact as it transpires, his latest on CUFF, Go Insane, is testament to the fact, as he serves up 4 tracks of dancefloor magic; each one of which is a real dancefloor delight.
‘Go Insane’ sees him call on a sample that’s been used multiple times over, but it’s the backing beats (complete with electro styles), which really marks this out as a track of distinction. Full of poise and delectable peak-time hues, it’s sure to proverbially ignite the dancefloor like few others in its class. ‘Aioli Creme’ (a homage to their time in Ibiza perhaps?), uses another elongated bassline, melding it with a smattering of vocals that prove a perfect foil. ‘Back 2 Work’ is a groover in no uncertain terms, before ‘Broken Like Glass’ brings a sense of unease and disillusionment to the table thanks to its eerie mannerisms. Yes, it’s not avant-garde release this side of 2014, but taken on its own merits, it’s an EP that’s hard to contend with.
