Diynamic Showcase at Loveland ADE – Amsterdam

There are many big events at ADE from which to choose during the famous conference week in October. From clubs with stellar line-ups to DJs and labels doing their own thing in various different spaces, every style is covered, every sound is explored. Once such massive event was the Diynamic Showcase at Loveland, which epitomised the modern approach many labels take in that the Hamburg stable is a close-knit family of producers.

The label, of course, was and is run by Solomun, who nowadays is a big room, Pacha headlining house star that introduces newbie dance fans to more cultured underground house. Back in 2006, though, when they first hooked up, Diynamic itself was a staunchly underground label that emerged with its own genuinely unique sound. Often referred to as fairground house, it was music that was couched in tech house but that came riddled with trilling melody, was stuffed with colour and really made people feel good as well as dance all night long.

Still the people dance all night long to Diynamic beats but the remit has changed so that now prog, lots of main room tech and flashy melodies all make up the label’s output. As well as core dudes Stimming, Solomun and H.O.S.H the likes of Adriatique and David August have also joined the ranks. Tonight’s party saw August, as well as DJ Phono, Kollektiv Turmstrasse and Magdelena all play.  In fact, Magdelena was the one charged with warming us up and when we arrived around 11 was doing a fine job. The venue was already packed with a diverse crowd made up of people from all over the world and indeed, each and every one of them seemed to be delighted from the first set to the last.

We then stuck around for a bit of Adriatique – though we went to check out the dude H.O.S.H dropping some fire in Studio 2, and all reports were that David August after him was just as great – but were mainly interested in Solomun’s set in this room, which featured plenty of big hands in the air moments, sing along songs but also more than a few underground gems all weaved together tightly, coherently and with a nice flow of energy they bring great reactions from the crowd, especially when black confetti rains down onto the ‘floor from high above. 

He dropped his new David August remix, as well as his current big tune ‘Friends’, a polished, uplifting and hugely melodic track rippled with a colourful and charming xylophone melody, nice rich chords and well paced drums, but also going down well was Thyladomid feat. Mahfoud’s ‘The Real Thing’ which has just been released on Diynamic. Overall then, it was a wonderful night that proved why this label is so great.
