Denis A – Other/Another EP

denis_aaa.jpegLabel: DARScore: 8/10

Denis A is a Russian producer who’s turned out in his time for the likes of Ministry of Sound and his own fledgling label, DAR, which we gather, stands for Denis A Records. Anyway, speculation aside, he returns to his howe label thanks to the quick-witted and dexterous EP that is Other/Another; a release that speaks to the senses like few others we’ve encountered recently.

It’s magical stuff from the off too, not least because of the beguiling hues that comprise the stunning track, ”Other”. Packed full of floating, celestial facets and a series of inspiring synths, it’s a melodic, introspective listen that brilliantly joins the dots between dancefloor and home listening. A job very well done indeed.

While we hadn’t quite expected the B-side to match up, we’re delighted to report that it does. On ”Another”, Denis A goes less subtle and less gentle, as he ramps up the intensity a notch thanks to the less harmonious calling card that is ”Another”. It’s worth noting, mind, that it too is brimming with personality – it’s just that it’s the firm kicks and the bassline that help bring it to a higher place. A true triumph, here’s hoping Denis’ purple patch continues unabated for some time to come.

Grahame Farmer

Grahame Farmer’s love affair with electronic music goes back to the mid-90s when he first began to venture into the UK’s beloved rave culture, finding himself interlaced with some of the country’s most seminal club spaces. A trip to dance music’s anointed holy ground of Ibiza in 1997 then cemented his sense of purpose and laid the foundations for what was to come over the next few decades of his marriage to the music industry.
