Amongst the waterways, priceless collections of art and ahem, coffee shops there is one thing about Amsterdam that we love more than anything else which sadly often gets overlooked: the music. Yes, in the mire of clichés surrounding the Dutch capital one of the tragically underplayed things (at least internationally) the city has to offer is the abundance and variety of quality music it has to offer.
From Trouw to Meklweg to Studio 80 Amsterdam is a place where the clubs you can go from listening to the latest most cutting edge music one minute to classic sounds the next. If you want to that is. However, it’s no longer just the clubs that are making a splash internationally with a number of festivals in the Netherlands similarly making people sit up and take notice. Perhaps the most inspiring of them all is Dekmantel with the clubnight turned festival assembling one of the most impressive line-ups we’ve seen in a long time with a who’s who of techno being drafted in to play.
From Detroit scene instigator Jeff Mills to Berlin techno overlord Marcel Dettmann we could literally wax lyrical all day about the artists we love who’ll be on display between 1-3 August and have already began to have panic attacks just thinking about how can schedule who to see and who we’ll sadly have to miss out on seeing this time.
Returning to the lush forests and grassy meadows of the Amsterdamse Bos last year these magical surroundings proved to be the perfect setting for the intimate festival the organisers had in mind and have had us daydreaming of heading back since we last left.
We a bigger and dare we say even better line up this year including the likes of DT favourites DJ Koze, Levon Vincent, Kyle Hall, Answer Code Request, John Talabot and Axel Boman to name but a few this is a festival not to be missed.
