Atapy – In & Out

Dutch label Subjekt Recordings made a fine start to life recently, with the work of Peruvian prodigy Luis Leon very much a sign that they’re moving in the right direction. Their latest EP comes thanks to another dab hand, Atapy, a Romanian who’s come to prominence of late thanks to his work for the likes of Get Physical, AliVE and most significantly, Noir, where he teamed up with great effect to the producer of the same name.

His Subjekt debut sees him turn in two stunningly beautiful numbers, the first of which is the title track, ”In & Out”. Well poised and delicate, it features a stirring and indisputably potent bassline, the likes of which will go down a storm wherever it’s allowed to fly. As an added bonus, there’s a radio edit too, but it’s Tim Paris who really seals the deal on this excellent EP thanks to two emphatic remixes. His so-called ‘Mindgames’ mix does indeed play tricks on us, as it brings us down a path that’s filled with deep and dexterous alleyways and a mound of suspense that’s difficult to jettison. Again, his take comes with a radio edit, and it’s a fine way to sign off on what is a thoroughly engaging EP.

Grahame Farmer

Grahame Farmer’s love affair with electronic music goes back to the mid-90s when he first began to venture into the UK’s beloved rave culture, finding himself interlaced with some of the country’s most seminal club spaces. A trip to dance music’s anointed holy ground of Ibiza in 1997 then cemented his sense of purpose and laid the foundations for what was to come over the next few decades of his marriage to the music industry.
