6 Reasons to Take The Party to NYC for Labour Day Weekend
Labor Day is observed in the U.S. on every first Monday in September, this year on 5th September, as a day to recognize the contributions of American workers of all industries to the U.S. economy. It is also meant to give workers a well-earned day off to relax at home or to get out for recreation.
To many, Labor Day marks the end of the summer season, even as Memorial Day marks its beginning. Many see Labor Day as their last chance to get out and take a vacation before summer is gone, and many workers get a two-week annual vacation period with Labor Day Weekend right in the middle of the two weeks off.
We’ve picked some of the best parties and events over that Weekend to attend.
ELECTRIC ZOO FESTIVAL
The obvious choice for all your party needs this Labour Weekend has to be the beastly Electric Zoo Festival taking place on Randalls Island. The internationally reclaimed festival will be returning to the concrete jungle for it’s 8th year, a herd of the world’s biggest names in dance music. Hardwell, Tiesto and Steve Aoki are all taking to the stage over the course of the three days.
Meanwhile Europe’s finest, Elrow Ibiza and ANTS, will also be hosting their very own parties on the Sunday School Groove stage, featuringsets from Eats Everything, Bicep, Jackmaster and Joris Voorn.
NYC DOES CARNIVAL
The city’s annual Caribbean carnival is known for being the biggest of big summer blow-outs. From Thursday toMonday of Labour Day weekend the West Indian American Day Carnival takes to the streets of Crown Heights in Brooklyn; the perfect excuse to soak up the last of the summer sun. With crowds expected to be around the two million mark this street party spreads out across Eastern Parkway, a colourful culmination of steel-pan drummers, calypso bands and West Indian street vendors kitted out in head to toe carnival dress.
This house music hot-spot is located in the effortlessly cool Meatpacking District and is now open seven days a week, meaning you could feasibly spend the entire Labour Day weekend here. However, if you just have one night to let loose, Saturday 3rdSeptember is the night you must not miss, with music from Forward Disco residents Sean Cormac, Chili Davis and Mark Smith, making the most of Cielo’s dynamic sound system.
HOT SINCE 82 AT FLASH FACTORY
Making his debut at the legendary Manhattan haunt, Brit boy Hot Since 82 will be taking advantage of the long weekend with an all-nighter at Flash Factory, set to go on until 6am Saturday. The 10,000 square foot venue is tipped to reach full capacity with tickets for just $30.
GUY J’S SUNSET YACHT PARTY
Tel Aviv’s techo enthusiast Guy J will be setting sail around the Big Apple on Saturday night in a Labour Day special of Esscala’s Sunset Sessions. After a string of sell-out boat parties, the Lost & Found DJ has become famous for his floating festivities, bringing his latest one to Pier 15, NYC.
