Sounding like a synopsis for an Hollywood movie MAKJ’s introduction to electronic music was nothing if not dramatic as he uncovered his passion for mixing the tender age of 15 whilst living overseas in China as a professional racecar driver. No sooner had the teenager grabbed hold of his first set of Technics 1200 Turntables than his future as a DJ was decided. As a 17-year-old, Johnson made his way back to the United States with a unique outlook and greater ambition than ever before.
As a 17-year-old, Johnson made his way back to the United States with a unique outlook and greater ambition than ever before and quickly found himself under the tutelage of the late great DJ AM himself, who trained MAKJ in the art of scratching as he began to forge a reputation as one to watch for the future. Several years then passed with him playing at premier venues all over the U.S. including Avalon, The Hollywood Palladium, XS, Ruby Skye, Pacha to name but a few as his productions started to see release on some of the industry’s most respected labels and his edits, bootlegs, and remixes received immense support from international artists such as Hardwell, Tiesto, Afrojack, Porter Robinson, Chuckie, Avicii, Laidback Luke, Nicky Romero, Michael Woods, Nervo, Bingo Players.
Still only 23 and with lofty ambitions for the future we thought the time was right to introduce you to the EDM sounds of MAKJ. Enjoy.
